The concluding press conference of the Minister of Justice with the termination of the Czech Presidency
The half year of the Presidency in the justice area brought everything what the Ministry of Justice determined at its beginning. At the Justice and Home Affairs Councils, the Presidency team succeeded not only in ratifying and adopting legislation which will speed up justice operationing and affect lives of citizens in the entire Europe, but also in significantly moving forward instruments which will be ratified during the upcoming Swedish Presidency.

The Minister of Justice opened the Plenary Meeting of the European Judicial Network in criminal matters
At the close of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Ministry of Justice in the cooperation with the Secretary of the European Judicial Network and with a significant contribution of the Supreme General Prosecution held the 32nd Plenary Meeting of the European Judicial Network in criminal matters. Between 24 - 26 June 2009, specialists on cooperation in criminal matters from the whole European Union met in the Prague Congress Centre.

European Judicial Network in Civil and Commercial Matters met in Prague to deal with international abduction of children
The Ministry of Justice held the 27th meeting of the European Judicial Network in Civil and Commercial Matters in the Prague Congress Centre. This time, the meeting was focused on practical matters related to abduction of children. Aside from the representatives of the European Commission and the permanent contact points of the Network, representatives of Central Authorities for International Protection of Children also took part in the meeting. The Central Authority in the Czech Republic, for example, is the Office for International Legal Protection of Children in Brno.

The Last Justice and Home Affairs Council during the Czech Presidency rounded off successfully
Minister of Justice Daniela Kovářová chaired today the concluding meeting of EU Ministers of Justice during the Czech Presidency in Luxembourg. The Ministers adopted draft regulations that regulate procedures for negotiation and adoption of bilateral agreements, they assessed developments achieved in the field of eJustice, and they also discussed the issue of international abductions of children into countries which are not a party to the Hague Convention.

The Minister of Justice Daniela Kovářová opened the General Assembly Meeting of the European Judicial Training Network (EJTN) in Prague
Representatives of national educational justice institutions of the most EU Member States came do Prague where is held the General Assembly Meeting of the European Judicial Training Network (EJTN) during 3 - 4 June 2009. More than 60 delegates are dealing about possibilities of support of the education of judges, prosecutors and other judicial staff within the entire Europe in the Prague Congress Centre.

The Minister of Justice Daniela Kovářová participated in the G8 Justice and Home Affairs Ministerial Meeting in Rome
The G8 countries traditionally dealt with the issues of terrorism combating and organized crime in particular. This year on 28 - 30 May, they focused also on questions of migration, city security, combating child pornography and cybercrime. The Minister of Justice together with the Minister of Interior Martin Pecina represented the Czech Presidency therein.

The end of the Czech EU Presidency in the Committee for Article 36 of the EU Treaty
The Czech EU Presidency in the justice area of the Committee for Article 36 of the EU Treaty was formally finished on 20 May 2009 in Brussels. In this occasion the Czech Chairwoman of the Committee handed over the Justice Cat to the forthcoming Sweden Presidency according to the tradition.
The Committee for Article 36 is the senior work body of the EU Council, which covers functioning of the working groups in the area of police and justice cooperation in criminal matters. -
The Minister of Justice held a meeting on behalf of the Czech EU Presidency with her Russian counterpart Alexander Konovalov
The cooperation of the EU with the Russian Federation in the area of providing legal assistance or child protection was among the topics the Czech Minister of Justice Daniela Kovářová had been discussing with her Russian counterpart in Kaliningrad. On 14 - 15 May the Russia-EU Permanent Partnership Council meeting of ministers on Freedom, Security and Justice is being held there.

The Czech presidency is making both the Czech and the Arabian justice closer
The Czech presidency is organizing the conference focused on changing of experiences between the EU and the Arabian states in the field of justice education. The conference is taking place on 4 and 5 May 2009 in Amman. In the conference, which is being held under the auspices of both Jordanian King Abdullah II and the Czech Presidency, 300 delegates from the EU and the Arabian region are participating.

Justice Minister aims to strengthen EU-Western Balkans anti-terrorist cooperation
On 4 and 5 May, Prague hosts a seminar on the cooperation of the EU and the Western Balkans countries in the fight against terrorism, organised by Eurojust (EU's Judicial Cooperation Unit) in cooperation with the Czech Ministry of Justice, Ministry of the Interior and the Czech Police.

Pospíšil and Holder ratify EU-US agreements on extradition and mutual assistance
On 28 April Prague hosted the troika meeting of the EU and US Interior and Justice Ministers. Czech Justice Minister Pospíšil and US Attorney General Holder ratified the Agreements on Extradition and Mutual Legal Assistance. The EU-US agreements are expected to enter into force in the coming months when all EU Member States have deposited their instruments of ratification.

Minister of Justice Jiří Pospíšil strived to consolidate succession proceedings at European level
On 20-21 April 2009, the Minister of Justice was due to debate with probate law experts from throughout the European Union. The basis of the discussion at an international conference on the subject of "Succession and Wills in a European Context" was the proposal for a Regulation on Succession and Wills, which, if approved, would significantly contribute to consolidating legislation on succession proceedings taking place in several EU Member States.

The Czech Presidency contributed to more effective criminal proceedings in Europe
The Justice and Home Affairs Council took place in Luxembourg on 6 April 2009. The area of Justice led by the Minister of Justice Jiří Pospíšil achieved a general agreement on the framework decision on prevention and settlement of conflicts of jurisdiction in Luxembourg.

Minister of Justice Jiří Pospíšil is aiming to improve the protection of children in criminal proceedings
The experts in criminal law from all over European Union came to Prague to discuss hearings of children and other vulnerable victims and minimal standards required as a prerequisite to the admissibility of testimony as evidence in criminal proceedings, as well as to discuss many other questions, which might also inspire a new Czech Code of Criminal Procedure. The international conference on the topic „Protection of children and other vulnerable victims during criminal proceedings" is being held by the Ministry of Justice 17 - 18 March 2009 in the Prague Congress Centre.

Minister of Justice welcomes EU experts at international conference “e-Justice without Barriers” in Prague
More than 300 experts from the EU will present their national solutions in the area of digitising the judicial system during the conference "e-Justice without Barriers". The objective of the conference is to exchange experiences with introduction of modern communication technologies to the European judicial system. The motto "e-Justice without Barriers", as a priority of the Czech Presidency, represents a unified system of electronic judicial system in the whole of the EU. The conference is held on 17 - 18 February 2009 in the Prague Congress Centre. At the conference representatives of the Ministry of Justice will introduce the technical solution of the Czech insolvency register and the topic of reliable computing background for Czech justice.

A short movie was presented at the Informal Meeting of Ministers for Justice and Home Affairs on 16 January 2009 in the Congress Centre of Prague for the first time. Deputies of Member States were consequently set up with the movie at the international conference "e-Justice without barriers" in Prague (17 - 18 February 2009). The main goal of the movie is the propagation of digitising the judicial system.

The Minister of Justice handed over a gift from the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic to Pope Benedict XVI.
Pope Benedict XVI. received the Minister of Justice Jiří Pospíšil at a general audience today. At the end of the audience the Minister handed over a letter and a gift to the Pope sent by the Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek.
